Able to vacate judgment?

I have an old judgment against me from 98. It is about to fall of my credit report, but I am in the process of buying my first home and they want it to be satisfied beforehand. The judgment was for a payday loan that I didn't pay back. Back then you wrote them a check as collateral and if you didn't pay them back they tried to cash it. After it bounced they sued me for writing a bad check.

In Indiana the courts looked into this practice and decided that these loans weren't acceptable. So they ruled that everyone's debts were null and void. However since mine was already turned into a judgment under the guise of a "bad check" I am wondering how to find out if this debt is still valid.

I called the attorney listed on the judgment, and of course they said it is still valid and that they won't accept any settlements and they want to collect all the accrued interest on top of it! Bastards!

I hadn't heard anything about this debt since the judgment nearly 7 years ago! The check was for $250 and they are trying to collect over $1200 now.

Anyone offer any advice?

The sol in IN is 10 years. The bank has already seen the judgment on my report so now it has to be paid off or vacated. I was just curious to find out if the changed laws affected me or not since they had already gotten a judgment.

I went in and talked with the judicial asst. in the courthouse and she said that I would have to pay it off. But who knows how much she really knows!
