Simply getting caught at what they did wrong, and the only justice they have to serve is doing what they should of done in the first place, doesn't really send a message "hey stop doing that" its more like "hey break the law as much as possible and the ones that don't report and refernce the law will leave a huge pot of gold at the end" That pot of gold is what is making them break the law, I would think taking it away form them would put ethics back into collection.The system as I see it now is "lets screw them because they screw us". Collectors breaking laws to collect more then what is owed, and consumers stiffing legitmate bussiness by using the law to weasel out of paying what they legally owe. I see it all over these boards. I see cases of collectors being nasty and breaking the law, and I see posters who are asking questions on how to get out of paying the credit card debts that was probably used to by a big TV, nice dinner, or some other thing they wouldn't have if they didn't use the credit card.It makes me sick really, good consumers like myself who always pays a debt that is owed, has to suffer with inflated prices, huge intrest rates, crazy late fees because people are always trying to screw over everyone and the legit people are the ones paying for it.
