score booster
Does anyone know FOR SURE the effect of paying off an older judgment (roughly 4 yrs) on the scores? I'd appreciate any feedback from anyone who has paid an older judgment and seen a resulting change in their score!
Steel Cowboy
Paying a judgement will not change your score. It will just show as paid.
miracle
Steel is correct, it doesn't do anything for your score. It all looks the same paid or unpaid on Collection accounts and judgements as well. It would make a difference in the case you are trying to get a loan and they require these things to be paid. The best thing to do is negotiate with OCs and try to dispute off judements or use other techniques suggested on the boards. Should help out some (I hope) Good Luck! -Jenn
score booster
Not necessarily so; paying older collections can drop your score. Judgments have status dates and fico may perceive it as a recent negative.
miracle
Really, the point I was getting at is that you want to get those off of your report (paid or unpaid) because either way, they are not favorable on your score.
score booster
there's really nothing to negotiate, Miracle. It was a judgment for $7000. It's paid in full now. A little late to negotiate!
score booster
I was able to get it off tu. Next to impossible to do the same with eq and exp, though.
miracle
ok. I don't think I read everything correctly I appologize. I didn't realize it was already paid.
score booster
Their attorney sent me a copy of the release this week. It's been reported as paid to the courthouse. I wish I could just dispute with eq and exp and somehow coerce the courthouse not to respond. If I'm correct on this though, court listings are verified by third party researchers, not the courthouse directly. Everything on the eq and exp listings is unfortunately correct. So a basic dispute won't work.
miracle
that may be the case, but you may want to try method of verification / procedural request. http://www.creditinfocenter.com/repair/MethodOfVerification.shtmlThis process does take time, but very well may do the trick.
