Third Party Agencies Reporting Judgments to Bureaus

Stick with the credit bureaus. You'll get faster and better results. Besides, if they screw up you always have the FTC, AG's and BBB to whack them in line.

Don't know how often the 3rd party agencies update. Seems we're still at a loss as to how they really operate and how to nail them. So, you'll have to do this systematically, one CRB at a time. And don't forget, there are numerous CRA's in addition to the big 3 (4).

No mystery there.

BK info is obtained through the BK courts directly via PACER.

For county courts that have free on-line access to case docs, judgments/liens/convictions/evictions at the state court level are down-loaded directly, all other courts are handled by "circuit riders" who visit each court on a periodic basis and scan the info into their laptops.

While there are numerous CRAs, that doesn't matter since they are local and also function as collection agencies. They do not report public record info unless it is local.

GDL is right about how the info get on but it seems a lot of us (myself included) have a hard time to no luck getting this stuff off LexisNexis/Hogan et. al.

I've got a old student loan judgment that I satisfied in 1999 but the release was never filed so it remains. Same thing for a UCC filing on a loan I took out and paid. The bank never filled out a release. Now these items aren't on my cr's but LexisNexis is still listing the info (and you can bet selling it) on their reports.

After being on these boards I have learned all the tricks and got the UCC released but I decided to let the student loan record remain for now. Why? For the longest time I couldn't understand why I never got sued for other bad debts. Then it hit me! I looked like an absolute loser/deadbeat. These public records helped to insulate me from further action. Being in IL, I certainly needed this since the SOL on some of my old debts ran as long as 10 years. Happy to say that I'm almost in the clear.
