ChicagoMeow
Hey Creditmeisters,I celebrated the 2004 CHOD by disputing pretty much everything negative on my CR. Old CA's, etc. What I got was a bunch of form letters requesting verification of my identity via a copy of my social sec. card, drivers license, etc. Does this mean they have passed the 30-day mark and I can demand the stuff to be dropped?I didn't follow up b/c I didn't want to fax these items to the CRA. gprncss
Has your address changed recently? It could be your address does not match what they have on file or a stall tactic. If address has not changed recently(30-90 days) and it's been over 35 days since they recieved your letters, I would think you have a very good chance of getting things deleted. edubb007
Don't fill out crapola! They will try to buy time this way! Starting the dispute date over when you return the info!
wunderwoman
I'd have to disagree here. Did you send off your disputes without verifying your identity? You should ALWAYS send a copy of a recent utility bill and either your driver's license (which I don't do because then they'd know I'm black, and hey, I don't doubt they'd think I actually owe the money, but that's another issue, and I've tested this theory) or a copy of your social security card. You should send one of these. As a victim of ID theft, I completely support that they need identifying documents before attempting to gain/correct more info on you. How do they know that some ID theft isn't trying to get details about you in order to exploit you?Just my 2cents from experience. Unless you dispute online (and they ask a lot of questions to verify who you are) you should ALWAYS send these two pieces of identification. RedDog
If you send a copy of your drivers license always mark out the lic#. No need to give them addtional information.
Paladin_Roden
(which I don't do because then they'd know I'm black, and hey, I don't doubt they'd think I actually owe the money, but that's another issue, and I've tested this theory) It’s a shame the world is that way, I have the same trouble too. I never mention my race to any business or government agency, because I fear that the person handling my case might be a minority labeling me an evil white man trying to oppress their race. When in fact I’m just as human as the next person, regardless of race. I’ve had problems with CRA’s asking for ID, even when I sent copies of SS card, and utility bill when I first filed the dispute. Sometimes I think the people at the CRA don’t even look at all the documentation you give them when you send it to them. They just read account numbers, hit a few keys and that’s that. miracle
I usually send a copy of my DL (with the # blacked out) and a copy of my SS Card with my disputes. Did you send anything like that with your disputes? If you did I would say :Usually, when they request this info it is a stall tactic to give them 15 more days. If you did not.. you may have to send them something to show it is you, but sadly it will extend their time to investigate
edubb007
I have never, ever sent a copy of my liscense with any of my disputes nor filled out any of thier doc's they sent in return. Just the way it worked out for me. Maybe others can explain to me why but I never did that and never would. If anything I've heard they tack on more time to the dispute...Not good in my eyes!Edubb
Methuss
15 days? Nope. They use the DL/SSN scam to claim an entirely new 30 day period. Their twisted rationale is that because you didn't provide sufficient identification to begin with they never started the investigation.
DocDon
Total scam. Do they honestly believe an ID Thief is going to first try to clean up the credit they are about to steal? They don't seem to have a problem selling your info to any marketer that flashes a few bucks in their faces.....
