sl2209
I wish I had found this site a year ago. I've apparently been mighty dumb in the way I've handled the cc's. Would like advice on the latest with American Ex.In short ... we got behind last Feb on Am Ex Sign & Travel and the open account. Were in communication with AmEx regularly, and keeping them posted on our intentions. Would pay, but might not be every month. Suddenly, we get a call from GC services, and can no longer even get through to AMEX. Had a total balance of $15,000+. Worked out a payment arrangement with them for $500 per month (ouch). Have paid it but might have to skip a month, and catch the following month. They have always been very professional. So, Made the payment on the 18th of this month, and last night, we get a call from Nationwide Credit. Again, very professional. Starts conversation by giving her full name, managers full name, and both their extensions. She tells me that AMEX has been unhappy with the way GC has been servicing the account, and they are taking over (her records do not reflect Feb payment either, and she called after 9:00 ... 9:06 to be exact). Account balance is now down to $4,800 and change. She now wants me to make another $500 payment (can't do), and try to pay off the account at which time AMEX wants to reestablish our relationship, and will give us an OPTIMA card with a $3,500 limit, or, she is willing to settle the account for $3,600 plus change.I have no clue what to do ... I do know I can't pay the card off! I thought about a good will letter to AmEx, but not sure if that's the course to take.Any suggestions?
