powerrose
I live and work in Japan since graduating and haven't had a single problem with my bills/loans. Recently, my mom has started getting hassled by a collection agency (they call her 5 times a day). Apparently I had an outstanding student loan but the company never attempted to contact me (not even a postcard or phone call). This despite writing my permanent address and the addresses of just about everyone I've ever known in my life on the application. Our phone number hasn't changed in ten years! Any advice? Chancy949
I did the same thing you did after college. I taught at AEON for a year and a half. It was HELL getting Sears to mail me statements, and I'd have to go to the post office on my lunch break to get my Yen turned into a Dollar Cashiers Checks. Finally after about 4 months Sears started to realize I really did live in Japan and sent my statements to my new address. I had them paid off before I ever moved back.As for your student loans. I did an *oops* and was never able to get in contact with them until I came back to the states, It was hell getting that fixed.I would tell your mom to have them send you the statement to your new address, if it is really yours (the loan). You don't want to end up like me with defaulted students loans when you move back (if you move back? LOL)Those, unlike credit card debt, were not as easy to correct. One thing I did do, was a federal consolidation. Not sure if this helps...but hey, I've been there. Also, I am trusting that you said "working in Japan" as meaning you are working for a Japanese Company, not in the Military.
