CrazyForCredit
I may have a judgement against me - I'm not sure. I seem to recall getting a letter in 1999-99 from a collection agency saying they had a judgement against me, but there's nothing on my credit report. The collection agency eventually gave up trying to collect from me, and over the years I've ended up paying most of what I owed to various other collection agencies. My credit report is now very clean and I recently applied for a mortgage. I got pre-approved and have a place under contract. Then, I suddenly remembered about the possible judgement. It's probably just anxiety from the upcoming loan process but I'm worried about this judgement. I paid nine bucks to do a search in the state I think the judgement would have been filed -https://wacourtsonline.com/superior.htmI didn't get any hits at all, and I'm a little suspicous about that because my name is semi-common. I was wondering if anyone could recommend an online service where I could do another search? There's several agencies available but I don't know who to trust. DivineDiva
I think judgements are only on your report for 4 years as opposed to the 7 years that revolving and open ended credit stay on.
CrazyForCredit
I don't think the judgement, if there was one, was ever on my credit report. I've got old copies of my credit report going way back. It's not the credit report I'm concerned about. It's whether or not I actually have a judgement against me. Maybe I'm just being paranoid!! But I'd like to find out for sure and address the issue now while I still have time. Closing isn't until April 30.
amortgageman
I think you are just being paranoid. The fact that you have already done a search and found nothing, indicates to me that a judgment was never filed. I would also have to lean towards the issue that if a company has a judgment, and that judgment is from XXX, and they sell that debt, then they would no longer have a right to the judgment, and would have to release it. Mind you, I am not an attorney, and you would need to follow up with a professional in that area.During your loan process, you will have a title search done. Even if the title search shows a judgment, it should not have an impact on your loan approval (there are few instances where a judgment would stop a purchase transaction). There are good chances, that once you find out who the title company is, that your loan officer or you can ask if they turned anything up.Relax.
