IncreaseMyFICO
I disputed late payment histories with TU on three accounts. I recently received their response. Instead of deleting the late payment histories, they deleted the accounts altogether. Aside from the late payments the accounts are in good standing. They are also three of my oldest accounts (2 of the 3 are closed). Should I fight them or just leave it alone? I'm guessing the account that is still open, with current activity, will be reported again by the creditor next month and reappear???
Guest jeeptravel
Don't seek to delete old accounts unless they are delinquent with a balance. They are helping your history part of your score. If a company is reporting, they will respond to the dispute and validate it.Hope that helpsjt
creditdodger
I don't mean to make fun of your username, but you actually might have acted against your intended purpose. Have you checked to see how much they dropped?
IncreaseMyFICO
No, I haven't checked my scores since I've started all this. I have a list a few miles long of accounts to clean-up. Looks like I should just leave these alone since the accounts I have late payment histories have no balance. When I originally pulled my reports and scores, the late payment histories was one of the things that contributed to my low score. If only I had discovered the forum BEFORE I sent off the letters...hmmmmOn another note, if the late payment histories (on active and closed accounts) is the only thing other than balances that are too high and I don't have a long enough credit history (on account of my age), should I try to have them removed? I ask because the 'trouble' accounts are actually my husband's (from before we met, so they are not joint accounts), and my score is decent but not great, so I'd like to improve it as well. Credit history time, as it grows, is a part of your score. Zero balance accounts, openn or closed should be left alone.Dispute your husband's non-joint accounts on your report as "not mine."good lucktime heals all woundsjt
