Minimum Amount for CA Debt

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Is there a minimum amount a CA is allowed to collect for? I DV'd a CA who is reporting to EXp for a $14 debt, they responded back to my DV by sending a copy of a medical bill from 4/1999...so it is also SOL for state..my next step is to re-disputed with CRA, since I have CRA copies with no TL that says account is in dispute. I thought I read somewhere that the minimum they could report on was like over $40? What is my next step here???

In that collector message board, they were talking about the smallest amounts they have ever collected for. I know guys were getting into the pocket change range, but I can't remember exactly. Presumably you could collect for any amount of debt. One might question why you would expend $20 bucks to recieve 10, but I never said collectors were smart.

Hey its fun to see some of you all lurk over there!

LMAO

I call it "going to look at the monkeys" at the zoo. They fight so much among each other is sad. I call it that because you just can't believe you saw what you just saw! And their "Holier than thou" attitude. The "Moral Police". Man, I would rather be a deadbeat than work in that industry. Yes, we know you lurk here too, and if you would follow the law, there would be NO lawsuits. 8)

To all of the collection lurkers, who are the moral police, pray you never have a major illness or anything else that could destroy your credit. Put you out of work and land you with major medical bills. NO ONE is immune from bad credit, no matter how much you prepare.

OMG...I just cruised that site briefly, and here's a quote:

"Yes, the only purpose is to trigger a settlement. Some people don't see the light until that Sheriff is nailing parchment to the door... and even then some don't care. Its not that big a deal to be sued, its more shock and awe.. but fun to hear people call in crying!!"

What kind of a person enjoys another human being's distress???

Blockbuster sent me a letter once saying I had ten days to pay $8 in late fees or they would turn it over to collections. I'm lucky if I rent movies maybe three times a year and I usually pay off late fees, if any, the next time I rent. They were being real pricks about it that time for some reason. I have no clue if someone would have actually wasted the time to report it though.
