keanro
A few months ago we had some problems with Bellsouth billing us incorrectly on our phone bill. We tried several times to dispute the bill with no luck. Finally, I sent them a letter disputing the amount of the bill and asked that they respond in 30 days. We do owe them some money but not the amount they claim because they are trying to charge us for services we didn't have and didn't want. It has been about 45 days and we have not gotten a response from them. However, we did get a letter from a collection agency about this bill a few days ago. What do I do now? Can I refuse to deal with the collection agency and deal only with Bellsouth? Should I ask for verification of this bill? I have no clue what steps to take to get this taken care of. We intentionally had our service shut off because of the crappy customer servive in regards to this a couple of months ago. So far neither company has reported this to the credit bureaus, but I would like to take care of this before they do. keanro
horns
To be honest, the best thing to do is to pay it off, especially if it has not it any of your CR's. The bill is prob. not that large so you cannot jeopardize a bill less than 500$ showing up as a collection on your CR. Call them and work out a deal, the last thing you want is a "small" collection account on your CR that will "kill" your credit score...
