geterdone
After looking at my CR's I have noticed there are several things that need to be corrected but I'm not sure if they will help or hurt my score.I have several accounts that are several years old and are showing that they are closed on one report and open on another. They are showing that they have been paid as agreed. Should I leave these open even thought they have not been used in years?I have a few accounts that were included in BK and say they are still open but part of a BK. Should I leave these alone?I have one that was included in the BK that shows open and in collections. I do want to correct this one, right?I also have an account with household bank that is on my TU report twice. One says paid as agreed and the other (same account #) says closed included in BK? What should I do about this one? Also on TU, I have an account that is old, is reported as no data, and also shows that it is open. I'm also not sure what the account is. All it says is CFNA. Does anyone know what that is? Should I have it shown as closed or remove it from my report? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!~Jenn

score booster
You definitely want to take care of the one that shows in coll. Any open accounts showing (even if they are in fact closed) are likely helping you. The biggest thing you should be looking for here is any acct included in BK that's showing a balance. Also dispute the status of the BK. If it is in fact discharged I can almost guarantee it's not reported as such. I've gotten between 5 and 10 points by simply getting them to update that. Of course it can't hurt to try to get it deleted altogether, but in order to do that you need to get rid of all accts. in reference to the BK. You could try that at a later date. How long has it been?
score booster
Need to re-word last post! Kinda tired. When I posted that open accounts are likely helping you I didn't mean collection accounts. You want to dispute and get removed! Was it reported by the CA during the automatic stay by any chance? That's a sure-fire way to get it deleted.
geterdone
How can I best go about getting accounts IIB removed? According to my report, it says discharge date filed 1/20/04. Not sure if they were posted during the automatic stay or not. We are trying to get a new mortgage and I need to get started on this clean up soon but I am just so confused as to where to start. I have spent the entire weekend searching and reading this board and I still feel a little lost. I guess I need someone to say ,"Hey, this is what you need to do first!" score booster
First you need to make sure all accounts included are showing a 0 balance. The collection is definitely reporting with a balance right? You can start with a basic "not mine" dispute on everything negative. First round, basic disputes can be done online. geterdone
The account that says just collection is a o balance. Then the spiegel account that was actually IIB says $50 past due. I know that I don't want to have them change it to IIB, right?! I haven't really searched much on the "not mine" dispute. I will look into that and give that a go. Thanks for your help. admin
Make sure you don't mention that the BK is yours. Start with not mine before you dispute as "Included in BK".

ditaloca
In my opinion1. Get copies of credit report from the big three bureaus2. Look over each, they will have a few differences but, all accounts need to be identical in respect to dates and amounts and terms.3. The newest negitive accounts affect score the most, work on those first.4. Pick three or four of the baddies5. Research these 3 accounts, are sols past, are they 100% accurate, if they are charge offs make sure they are not being reported as " duplicates " 6. Plan of action...I can't really go past 6 without knowing more details of your negitive accounts. How you deal with them is dependant on quite a few things. One piece of advice, don't lie especially when disputing with the big 3 bureaus...Recently saw a case where consumer had legit claim against jdb, well the jdb had saved disputes forwarded from bureaus.... long story short, they were generic disputes of not mine then wrong amount then id theft.... those generic disputes made consumer look less than honest and. His claim was dismissed. So be warned. Also remember being vague isn't lieing. Not telling the entire story isn't lieing.Be creative, vague and sincere in tone... don't lie or contradict yourself though.
ditaloca
I also have an account with household bank that is on my TU report twice One says paid as agreed and the other (same account #) says closed ncluded in BK? What should I do about this one?Dispute that as a duplicate.Should be fairly easy.Collection accounts should be reported as closed accounts.shows that it is open. I'm also not sure what the account is. All it says is CFNA. Does anyone know what that is? Should I have it shown as closed or remove it from my report? No data ... cb's as well as creditors are required by law to report only accurate and verifiable info on a cr 1st attempt I would do a vague not mine, say something like I have no idea what this is but I never had an account with cfna.If that doesn't work let us know.
