Hi Everybody. This is my first post here. I am glad I found you. I have a question about credit repair- I lost my parents recently, inherited their home, and got into financial trouble so I refinanced their free and clear home at a 10.5 percent (yes, I know thats high) My Fico score was about 450, and our own home was in foreclosure so I did this as a "band-aid" till we can get back on our feet ( we own a business which went downhill when I was taking care of my parents) Anyway, I am considering working with a credit repair company that was referred by the lender, so I can get my score up and refinance to something better in a year. I notice here that some of you say NO NO to that- and am wondering why.....- I have to get my scores up, and frankly, have very very little time to do it myself right now. I have to help my husband get our business back up and running and get my parents house rented out now- have any of you had good/bad experien  ces with credit repair? Advice? Thanks in advance.....

I used a place about 2 years ago. I, also, had no time nor knowledge of all the in's and out's to doing it yourself. So I used them to do the preliminary easy stuff while I figured out the game. They do nothing that you can't do yourself; but, I don't think they are bad to use at the beginning to get a head start.

However, having said that, don't expect a "personal touch" or anything over and above from them. They just send out form letters for $35/month til you cancel the service. Typically, there is an initial set up fee for about $75 bucks.

I wouldn't use any that charge a "per item" fee mainly because there may be a lot of stuff that drops off during the first onslaught of disputes. They can make a lot of money for a piece of paper and a stamp.

If you are in a hurry and don't know that much about the game; I think it's a good place to start. But, after a couple of months, they use dwindles and you'll need your own personal touch to get some stuff taken care of. You'll need patience, persistance, and sometimes a little dose of anger helps. You won't get that from anyone else but you.

So, if you don't have the time but have a little money, check a few of them out and see what they offer. But, plan on getting rid of them in a couple of months. In the mean time, come back to this board and read, read, read till you can't read anymore; then, read some more! :-) After you get the hang of it, it's almost fun. But then, I'm masochistic too!!! LOL
