Going to apply for Providian

Recommended Posts

Now I am confused... :?

Providian gave me a $2000 unsecured platinum card last week with a 628 FAKO and a BK 3 months ago. How the h*ll did you guys not get approved and my sh*tty credit was worthy of a card? And get this, the same day I was approved by Providian, I was shot down for a $100 gas card by BP. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining- just sitting here scratching my head!

Yup, they definitely pulled EXP. I haven't checked the FICO in about a month, last I saw it was 630. The 640 was a FAKO, yes. I haven't received their denial response yet. I'm assuming it's the familiar "insufficient credit history" line...For years I went John Wayne style and paid cash on the barrelhead for everything. I don't have many TL's reporting. :?

tarheel, I have to commend you for paying cash for everyting. 99% of people can't say that they were able to that. That takes a lot of discipline. The only change now is to use a card when you get one and pay in full!

As far as why my sh*tty credit may have gotten me an approval, I just remembered one thing. I told them my annual income was $180,000. Its complete BS, but maybe they bought it and wanted a piece of the pie.

GOOD LUCK- hey I would rather have a very fixable "insufficient credit history" denial than a "recent bankruptcy" denial anyday!!

I appreciate that, jq. I currently have a few low-limit cards that I use for one purchase a month, and I pay them all in full. I was just shopping for a higher limit card to use the same way for reporting purposes. That lack of a revolving credit history should be taken care of shortly.

$180K? I bet they were drooling...

one last thought tarheel- do you have a friend, close family member, or significant other that you could become an AU on their card with? That might be the quick answer to get you the high available credit AND the added bonus of years of excellent history...there are many threads on this, but in short they would add you but never give you the card. Their long payment history gets transferred to your CR and you have accomplished your goal without additional inquiries.

You don't plan on really purchasing anything anyway!

Everyone I know is a deadbeat!

Really though, I have thought about that, but I'd prefer to go it alone. The TL's I have now are good, they just need some time to age, or "marinate" as we say down here. The Providian app. was a shot in the dark, I figured it was worth the few points of an inquiry to see where I'm at re: unsecured credit. It'll come in due time. Thanks!
