I have 2 small medical accts. with Progressive MGMT. I called and spoke with a rep. to pay these accounts off and get a letter of deletion. First they have added about $100 extra because of interest and 2nd she said they would not delete the accounts. She said this will be updated to the CRA as paid but it will still show as a collections account. What do I do? It’s medical they should not have a problem with deleting it… right? :?

How much are these medical debts? You imply that you have the cash to pay them off completely in one or two payments?

******

2 quick suggestions-

1. DV them and get them off your back for 30 days while you figure this out.

and/or

2. If you are going to pay them anyway, you can contact the original Medical service provider, give them a sob story and ask them to recall the debt from the collection agency. If you pay the full amount directly to the Medical Service Provider, they will be happy that they have collected more $$$ and they will usually sign an agreement to remove your listing from the CRAs.

When the debt is recalled, the CA can no longer list the debt with the CRA because they can no longer validate the debt.

If they are small enough that you can pay them off in full, contact the OC. Give them a sob story about how bad you feel these bills didn't get taken care of, but you admire the OC and blah blah blah. Send them the checks and ask them to tell the CA to delete them from your CR. Remind them that the CA works for them, so they will do it if the OC asks them to. If it is a hospital, send it to the president. Include a small donation to the hospital's foundation as a token of your goodwill, since you are asking for theirs. If it is a doctor, send it directly to the MD. Appeal to his arrogant self.

I have seen it work. CAs have no obligation or incentive to delete CR items unless their client tells them to.

You could also DV the CA. In your DV, ask to see the written agreement per HIPPA they have with the provider. If they cannot produce one, both may be held liable under HIPPA. That might soften them up a bit.

I thank you all for your responses it really really helped, I started to get bummed out because the debt is mine and I do have the money to pay in full but I don't want it to remain on my credit. Total debt is $398.00 split up into 2 accounts. I will try to go through the hospital directly and see where that takes me. I will keep you posted thanks sooooo much to all

Peace & Love :)
