To close or not to close... That is the ?

Thanks to this board, I have worked my way into the 800 FICO range. In the last week, I received a $5,000.00 Chase Visa and a $10,000.00 American Express Blue card. Two months ago, I received an American Express Platinum charge card(pre-approved).

My previous credit cards were:

Providian Visa, $1,300.00 (Balance $25.00) 1995

Orchard Bank, $900.00 (balance $0.00) 8/2003

Capital One, $1,425.00 (balance $30.00), High credit $1,035.00 8/2003

Which cards should I close, if any? The Orchard Bank card does me absolutely nothing, especially at an APR of 20.99%.

My recent AMEX Blue and Chase have an introductory APR of 0.00% for the first 12 months.

How will closing a few credit card accounts affect my credit score??

Thank you very much to you all.

I just continued to dispute every day and follow up. I sent a DV letter to 1 collection agency and, most importantly, paid off all my current credit cards. I had 3 privacy guard accounts which I pulled every day for transunion bumpage. I still have 1 negative on my experian report (an old paid-settlement from 1999) that is still on my report.

That's awesome LC!

If you have no plans for a while (ie: house, refi, car..etc), you can drop the old predatory accounts and build off your new credit.

What you did was reach the next tier of cards, so there's really little reason (except the few mentioned) to keep the lesser ones. There comes a time when you have to say 'goodbye'.

You won't lose the history, but you'll stop gaining it off those old accounts as well.
