goodgirl008
I currently have an account with Bank of America, and back in 2004, I received a letter from an Attorney's office saying they were trying to collect on a consumer debt. Well I recently contaced them to try and settle the debt, but was told they sold my account to another agency. I called that agency, and they told me they sold my account to yet another agency. Again, I called the new agency and they told me, they also sold my account to another agency.....so now my question is this, (I have not called this last agency- yet), but if my account was sold to this last agency....would this be the only Agency I would be settling with?thanks! divemedic
I wouldn't settle until I had completed the DV process. Selling over and over means you are dealing with JDB's. Not only that, if it has changed hands that many times, it is probably SOL.
workinninetofive
I agree. While your intentions are well, you will be paying some pond scum that purchased it for pennies on the dollar.
DocDon
To add:and each time that old debt is sold, it's sold for less and less... so eventually you're looking at a few hundred bucks for a junk debt that on paper says it's worth something in the thousands.... Jitterbug
Also keep in mind that if it has changed hands this many times, it's doubtful the present holder of the account would be able to validate it. If it's showing up on your CR, I would dispute it. If not, then let sleeping dogs alone.
