mudpie
My daughter received a notice that she was pre-approved for this credit card. So, without reading all the stuff (she's young and this is her first time trying to get a card), she called, got approved for $250.00. Well, without even using the card she has a $198.00 balance. Additional card charge of $20.00, program fee of $95.00, account setup of $29.00, participation fee of $6.00 and an annual fee of $48.00. I called and she called to cancel this card, but she's stuck with the charges, right? Is there anyway to report this to some agency or is this normal. I've never seen this before. bellatragedia
From their website: http://www.premiercreditcard.com/PremierClassicFees.aspxRefund Disclosure: Your Annual, Program, Account Set-Up, monthly Participation and Additional Card Fee (if applicable) are membership fees for truth in lending purposes. When your Account is approved, you will be sent a cardholder contract containing all of the terms applicable to your Account. If you elect to close your Account(s) within 30 days of receiving your cardholder contract and before you make any additional charges to the card, the Annual Fee, Account Set-Up Fee, Program Fee, monthly Participation Fee and Additional Card Fee (if applicable) will be refunded to you. You may have the Credit Limit Increase Fee refunded upon request within 30 days of billing, which will result in a reversal of the credit limit increase. After this 30-day period these fees are no longer refundable and you are responsible for the account.Just read the fine print for most answers If she is trying to establish credit, perhaps a household bank card (www.household.com) or a secured card from your bank, or even talk to a credit union for getting a card (secured or unsecured) as they are more likely to be good and work with their customers. Xanathos
Ahhhhh, the everlasting stench of First Premier. Your kid wouldn't want that garbage showing on her credit report anyways. I'd be embarrased to have their name on my report.Have her be careful in the future, as there are a lot of junk card companies out there that pull this stunt these days (the Here's a low limit card...oh by the way, here's an annual fee, a membership fee, a setup fee, a participation fee--different from the annual fee because we say it is--a paperwork fee, a delivery fee, and a "we're laughing at your sorry a$$" fee).Truth to tell, it's probably illegal (I know FP is being sued by something like 6 attorneys general for deceptive trade practices and unconscionable business practices), but reporting it won't do you much good as everyone already knows their scam.Have her apply for a Bank of America card...if she gets turned down, they'll probably offer her apartially secured card (that won't come loaded down with 230 dollars in fees). And unlike that gem of a card FP offers, when she closes the card down, that secured portion comes back to her
mudpie
She just received a pre-approved card for Capitol One. So we are going to READ everything before she calls. This one has a $2,000.00 limit and I'm already telling her about the horrors of credit card debt. I know, I have alot and I'm getting divorced! Xanathos
Pre-approved by Cap 1 and Pre-approved by FP are 2 wholly different issues. When FP pre-approves someone...they're gonna get a card if they ask (and then realize it's just a glorified secured card). Cap 1 sends out pre-approved mailers to everybody and their dog...she's pre-approved to apply for the card, not to receive it.If she has no credit, I don't think Cap 1 would approve her...I know shortly after I finished cleaning my reports up I went for a Cap 1 card to start with and got turned down because my credit history was too short (duh, it had all just been erased)

debcakes
I have to say that I'm not "embarrassed" to have First Premier on my credit report simply because it is 1 of 3 positive tradelines on my report. Mine is a secured card that I've had since September 2004 and will be keeping for a while for age. I guess because mine was a secured card, I didn't have all of those fees that they charge for the unsecured. I also have a Cap 1 secured that I'm keeping for age even though it's crappy not showing credit limit...have had that one since September 2004 as well. Just got an unsecured Orchard card last month so things are improving. I don't think anyone should feel "embarrassed" for having a positive tradeline...even if it is First Premier or Cap 1...especially if they are rebuilding like I am and options are limited. My goal is to get a car in the next six months so if these tradelines help me do that then I'll be happy...and hopefully down the line I can get some better cards. After a year of good standing you can ask to be upgraded to regular, and now you have a regular bank CC. It's a good angle for getting better types of TL. jlouki01
I haven't read everyone's responses because I wanted to say this real fast. You can cancel the card if she has not used it!
jlouki01
I have one I don't use it.. won't use it. I ended up paying the 198.00 because I needed positive tradelines. Then I started seeing my acount balance go up without evening using the stupid thing!!! So there is a 6.00/month fee.. Well since I screwed my credit up a couple years ago I pay all my bills on the lendor's website and it works out real well. Well FP charges you 7.00/ each online pay.So I pay 13.00/month to have the card. I called to cancel and they credited my account 80.00 to keep the card and not get my 200 refunded. I will call in a couple months and cancel it for good.
