csmyly
All three CRA's list a charge off for Amoco from 8/04 for $639. It also shows a past due of $244. It is not listed with a CA at this time. A month ago I disputed that this account belongs to me so it presently lists Dispute-resolution pending. I tried contacting Amoco to offer to pay for delete but they said they would not delete under any circumstances, and that they do not "do" settlements. My question is: if I go ahead pay this anyway will my score drop? (I am planning to buy a house in less than two months, and my broker says that I can't have an unpaid CO showing at closing.) Also, if the dispute comes back verified will that also cause my score to drop?
GreatGadsby
if it's a CO, my understanding is that the balance listed would have to be zero. maybe u can use that as leverage ?
DocDon
If the account is sold (or charged off and sold), then they must list a $0 balance.... just to clarify...csmyly, who did you talk you? Customer service? These folks aren't authorized to enter into any such agreement, and most of their answers are scripted. You should take your issues to the executive offices if you haven't done so already.August of 2004 wasn't all that long ago, so any update won't plummet your score as compared to if this account was say... charged off 6 years ago. Also, the balance isn't all that outrageous. Putting your house on hold while working out a PFD may not be in your best interest. A loan officer wants to see it paid. Then, add your score into the equation. Getting your credit balances to under 30% may be the score increase you need to offset what will then be updated as a "paid chargeoff".Some things to consider....
