Revco
That may be a difficult battle ahead of you. I've read the best recommendation is to contact the OC and try to negotiate with them. If they are true lates, the CRA would likely be able to verify them with the OC. Depending on how many lates you have on each loan will likely determine your level of success. It doesn't hurt to try...just be really nice about it and try to plan it for a good time - like just before a 3 day weekend or something...catch the employee in a good mood. xena0608
Sorry to say this, but I think you have a better chance of meeting Jesus Christ. Student loans are the absolute WORST! Believe me... they are the reason I can't buy a house right now. If you do find out anything -- I would be glad to hear it... Good luck!
Guest
Actualy student loans are VERY easy to clear up.The first step is to consolidate all loans. When you consolidate.. you basically rehabilitate the loan and therefor you can dispute the lates.. I disputed all my lates before hand and also disputed my accounts as duplicates.. this happens a lot when your account gets transferred around.go to this website to find out about consolidation. You can do this while loans are in default. It isnt hard at all.http://loanconsolidation.ed.gov/
xena0608
Unfortunately -- that option is not available to me - as my loans went to garnishment. I disputed the amount they wanted from me... and they decided that because I was always late -- that they would garnish my wages. It will not be removed from your credit report until it is paid. They gave me the option of rehabilitating the loan (which basically requires me to pay half of the balance -- If I could pay half of the balance -- they wouldn't have been in default in the first place!). I will give everybody advice here -- NEVER LET IT GET TO THE POINT WITH YOUR STUDENT LOANS -- THAT THEY GARNISH YOUR WAGES! Always, I repeat ALWAYS try to work out a deal (use deferments/forebearances, anything you have to use) to keep the loan current. thanks for listening!! wokscott
It sounds to me like the Student Loan CA is screwing with you. Rehabilitation is supposed to reasonable monthly payments. Read up over at the student loan forum and quote the law to the CA. If need be contact the Student Loan Ombudsman and explain your plight to them. NCOWife2
I had the same problem with student loans. I defaulted on a loan that I did not know about, but was able to rehabilitate it after making consistant, on-time monthly payments for a year. That is fine on my CR. As promised, the guarantor, removed the negative trade line from my credit report and got the lender to reinstate the loan. They too are fine since I am now paying them every month. As a matter of fact, in 2003, my credit score was the lowest possible score because of fraud by a couple of family members, military-related debt and student loans. Now, all scores are in the mid-600s.Now for the bad part. My report listed the original lenders as well as the consolidation account. In February, I had about eleven negative trade lines, but I only took out 4 loans. Aparently, one lender sold their account to another lender and now both are reporting negatively. I disputed and two lenders changed their trade lines from bad government debt to paid/current although they are still reporting previous late payments. One would think that a forbearance would prevent them from reporting a late payment on a CR.
