Target Guest Card Question

Recommended Posts

Yes, they report to all three. It showed up on all in about three weeks. Beware, Equifax shows the high balance as the limit- so use and pay off or it will tank your EQ utilization. TU and EX report correctly.

I called them yesterday after 3 months of having the card and asked them to up my limit and convert my card to a Visa. I use the card every month and pay in full. They denied both requests (through an automated desktop account review without a hard inquiry). They told me that after 6 months they generally will review my limit and increase it, but that conversion to a Visa usually does not happen. I know from reading this board that the CSR was probably just full of crap and was probably reading from cue cards, but that's their standard line.

Mine is reporting in all three CB. I called Target customer service to find out when they would switched the guest card to a Visa and the person that I talked to said that they don't normally do that. You have to apply again for the Visa and they will pull another inquiry for them to do that.

Go figure.

I haven't inquired to see if Target will upgrade my guest card to a visa. I figured they would have to have a separate application as most places do that if you want a different type of card they offer. They started me off with a $200 limit when I first applied and had many negs on EQ still and my score was barely 600.

After 6 months, they automatically raised my limit to $500. Most places will not do a CLI until at least the 6 month mark. Not saying all won't, but MOST won't, to keep in mind.

I will check with Target and see if they are upgrading guest cards or if it's a separate app.

I went into the store. They wanted to see that I had another credit card, then gladly gave a $300 unsecured guest card. I think its pretty standard. My FICO was about 620 at that time, which was less than 3 months after BK7 discharge. For that reason, I don't think Target is very selective-

Yep...a fraud alert will prevent them from being able to pull your report and will get you nowhere. Hopefully they will send you a phone number or address to notify them that you've corrected it.

I would also advise people to make sure your personal data is correct and to not use a cell phone # when applying for a Target card. I actually got a big fat denial with an over 700 score because they couldn't "verify my phone number" and "the number provided is a mobile telephone number" - all they had to do was call me. I also was not provided a number or addy to appeal this. Kind of crazy...ah well...don't shop at Target anyway.

Well I thought that since a fraud alert was on file it would just make them be more careful and make sure I was the actual person applying for the card, they was able to pull a inquiry. Does that mean to say that they just tried and wasn't able to pull my report, anyway I tried to call but they didn't have anything in their system. This fraud thing is becoming a problem, I never asked for it some CRA put it on there and the other Two put it on their too because I disputed as "not mine" and it has helped me get inquiries off since it was put on there, but I guess I need to just take it off.

I have fraud alerts on all 3 CRAs and successfully opened up three lines of credit in the past few months. They just call you and ask you questions to verify that it is you. I had a fraud alert on when I opened my Target Card, but I did it in the store. They checked my ID and another credit card as verification that it is me.
