geterdone
In 2001 my DH bought a new John Deere mower. A few years later he traded it in towards the purchase of a used mower that he paid $4500 for. We only had the mower for maybe close to a year and something went wrong with it. He tried to fix it and when he couldn’t he took it to the JD dealership to have it fixed. They had the mower for SEVERAL weeks and could not figure out what the problem was. They ended up loaning us a mower since ours was in the shop and we had nothing to mow with. They have had this mower since LAST spring. They have made comments along the lines of giving us a new mower that is comparable to that one or even giving us our money back. Now we are selling our house (actually it has sold and we close on June 1) and no longer need a mower since we are moving into a townhouse. We could really use the money to help with the moving expenses. If we had the mower we would sell it. John Deere still can’t figure out the problem with the mower and each time we talk to them, they are “waiting on a part to come in”. Do we have the right to demand they give us the money back for the mower? We paid $4500 and are willing to accept no less than $3500 for it. What kind of rights do we have as far as this is concerned?
DocDon
Yours would be a consumer protection issue that would more than likely fall under the jurisdiction of your State Attorney General's office.Find their site online and see what steps you need to take to file a complaint. You can probably file online.
