stargirl Posted May 7, 2005 Report Posted May 7, 2005 ok so i disputed some paid charge off accts and they came back verified. they were reporting as ok for like over a year because i paid in full but now that i disputed they changed it to collection or charge off and relisted it from paid charge off to charge off. can they do this? are they just doing this because i disputed?
Revco Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 Can they? Yes...they've done it to you, me, and several others. For what? It brings your score down by over a hundred points when they do this. Why? Because you disputed. Should they...no. Is it legal? No. Send proof of payment to the CRA along with a copy of your old CR shoing paid and request they change the status back. Can't guarantee that you'll get anywhere...but it's worth a shot. The difference on your CR shoing paid or unpaid doesn't really make that much of a difference. Creditors are looking for C/O's period...whether they remain unpaid or not often doesn't make a difference.
stargirl Posted May 8, 2005 Author Report Posted May 8, 2005 well if they dont fix it can i sue them for listing it incorrectly?
Revco Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 I think your battle would be at the CRA level. I can't think of any specific laws regarding a change from paid to unpaid...but technically...the CRA's are required to report your credit history as accurately as possible and fix any incorrect items.I would at least try to get it fixed before you think about lawsuits. I've been surprised at what I've been able to do with just a few letters and the cost of some stamps.
