stargirl
ok i already asked a question about this but i just realized that it may be reaging and illegal. i have a paid charge off account and i disputed it. it was showing ok/paid for over a year and now it says charge off in the payment history. is this reaging? and if it is wont that make it stay on my report longer therefore being illegal? Revco
No, this is not reaging. Reaging is when the CA changes the DOLA or date of last payment. It can also be when the DOLA is intentionally changed (at the request of the consumer) in exchange for removing lates and whatnot. What you've experienced is a change of status...and it won't stay on your report any longer than it would have, provided the DOLA has not been changed. I would still dispute it with the CRA's for paid status as if you are shopping for a mortgage, the mortgage company will likely make you go back and pay old debts.Just so you know, paid vs. unpaid C/O's really have no difference of effect on scores - they're both considered negative. Carlos
how do you balance this against a CRA such as TransUnioin? They do not list DOLA. On my collection account they list date placed.
HeartRN
On TUs report they list a date that each item will come off the report. This is only on the report you get directly from TU. EQ and EX both pulled that crap with me this month. I had a CO that I paid off in 2003, and I disputed the TL because it was listed as open and CO. They now list it as closed, paid, but in the status they have CO 3/05. I'm miffed to say the least. They say they verified this with the OC, but we all know better. I'm going to try to handle this through the OC.
stargirl
are you sure this wont change my score because it was listed as payment ok so it looked current and now it looks like they just charged it off.
Revco
Star...that depends...did they change the actual charge off status?? If they had removed the charge off status in full, then yes, a reinsertion of that status would affect your score. If, however, it was previously listed as a "paid charge off" - the change from paid to unpaid would make no difference.Like I said, I would still dispute it if only for the principle of what is right is right. Revco
Do you see anything mentioned of C/O anywhere in the new reporting? (Such as in the account notes) Is this CR from a different company than the one before? Based on what you've provided, this may have affected your score and should certainly be disputed. stargirl
it used to say paid charge off but now it just says account closed/charge off $XXX written offso basically it looks like i didnt pay it
stargirl
also it looks like it might have made the charge off look more recent
Revco
I honestly don't think it's affecting your score any differently...but it's impossible to tell for sure without before and after score shots or score monitoring. You can definately dispute it with the CRA on a matter of principle - I certainly would.
