blel0906
I know in most cases legit or not its recommended to valadate first...I am trying to get this collection removed from my report fairly quickly.. Its the only collection I have on record.Debt is for a short term tuition loan for a community college I took out 3 years ago for $500.00 I e-mailed the college informing them that I has to drop my classes before their 100% refund drop date....apparently they don't recognize drops in this manner I should have gone in filled out paperwork etc....therefore debt was turned over to collections...I honestly dropped the classes because at the time I could not afford to pay for the classes....but told the college I had to leave town on a family emergency. College said they would review it provided I could send them proof that I was out of state on an emergency...obviously I could not since I was not actually out of town....I did not persue the issue but attempted to dispute a couple years ago and then again recently...both times came back verified....Collection Agency also tacked on a $150 administration fee...so now owe $650....Collection agency has not attempted to call me or send me anymore invoices in several years...when I first recieved collection letter I sent letter stating that no contact would be made with agency contact would only be made with the Origional Creditor....I think I will be wasting time and effort to have it validated and can pay the debt now...I would prefer to deal directly with the college not the CA...how should I handle? Letter to the college explaining the miscommunication requesting the debt be removed from collections with promise to pay the origional $500 upon the removal of item...being the company I worked for is owned by myself and husband I can create a letter stating I was on a leave durring the time period in question...Thanks
codename_fortyseven
How long is fairly quickly? Why do you need to get it removed? Is the OC reporting or the CA or both?Tacking on a $150 "collection fee" is probably not authorized, unless you agreed to pay for it somewhere. You can't just add on fees with no accounting for them anyway.DV the CA. Tell them you dispute the account, date it, and send it CMRRR. Hit them with the 1-2 validation/CRA dispute punch and see what happens. They have to provide something on the debt to show that you owe it. blel0906
I want it cleared up by the end of the year...No specific reason mainly its a written goal of mine to finally have my credit file reflect who I am and where I am in my life today...What an interesting topic this would be to put out for discussion on the boards...like so many I am sure I made some stupid mistakes had some life events and have had to suffer the consequences most of my adult life...I am soo much more than a number but despite that feel that I get treated like a 2nd class citizen whenever attempting to obtain credit....perhaps I had to go through what I have gone through to become who I am today but I have sat on the back burner eating my humble pie long enough and am ready to be rewarded....yes rewarded with lower interest rates and incentives to make bigger purchase...I am stepping up the waiting process because of particualy humiliating experience a couple months ago....call it the straw that broke the camels back despite all my efforts...I was almost stranded at an airport because providian would not grant me an emergency temp credit line increase of $100 because of derogatory information on my credit file..... I attempted to pay my balance in full before I left for a funeral...but could not because of authorized charges not yet posted....thought I had it fully covered untill I learned the rental car co wanted a $150 deposit on top of my rental...they would not take cash and providian would not post any new payments to my account till midnight....forget the fact that I paid my balance in full every month or that I offered to make a payment on the spot even told them they could verify funds with my bank if need be....all for a deposit that would never actually be charged to my account in the end....or how about the car sales person thats all over you when you want to purchase....have $10,000 to put down on a $20,000 vehicle but treats you like a giant piece of garbage because your not easy to finance and you end up paying almost 20%!
