allno
Is it illegal to purposely hide from them? For instance, I have had them call and I tell them that they have the wrong number or that I no longer live there. Does anyone know what methods debt collectors use to find information on you? Like how easy would it be for them to find out that I have been recently married, just purchased a home, etc? I went to zabba.com and did a search on myself and was surprised at what it revealed. willingtocope
Nope...not illegal to hide from them. There's no law that says you have to talk to them on the phone. How easy is it to find you? Pretty easy. Actually, some of the credit reporting agencies actually help.If its the original creditors calling, there's not much you can do...other than what you're already doing...don't talk to them. If its a collection agency calling, then you've probably already received something in the mail from them...use the debt validation process, with a line that says all further contact should be in writing, to get them to stop calling.AND...read, read, read...you'll find lots of ways for dealing with these guys here... tweedle3
I had a CA call all my neighbors and leave messages that it was Urgent I call them back. They will stop at nothing to locate you. Espec. if it humiliates you.
willingtocope
tweedle3: If it was a CA calling for you and if they told any of your neighbors why they were calling or if any of your neighbors figured out that it was a CA, then you have then on an FDCPA violation...
