carguy82
I have a situation in which I am very worried about. Recently I relocated from California to Texas. In the move I forgot to pay and terminate my verizone wireless account. I called to pay it today and was informed the account was charged off. I paid the account but was informed after giving them my credit card that it will now report to my credit bureau as a paid charge off. Its not showing yet. But the told me it will and there is nothing I can do to remove it. I am freaking out. My credit is my life. I own a small business and if I get any hits on my credit bureau I am screwed. What can I do.
willingtocope
Assuming it was the OC you paid, and not a collector, you can try a "gee whiz, golly, I'm really sorry, this slipped my mind when I moved" kind of goodwill letter to the executive offices at Verizon asking if there isn't something they can do to help you clear your credit report. Sometimes it works...On the other hand, don't stress too much if Verizon does report it as a paid charge off. It will ding, but a single small (I hope) phone bill isn't going to hurt too bad.... divemedic
Verizon won't do goodwill. I had to build a case and sue to get a delete.
CreditSuperstar
Me too. And I haven't even filed yet. Cope- I have a follow up question to your comment. If VW reports a paid charge off to all 3 bureaus, can't this consumer can kiss a prime credit card goodbye?I had a 683 TU report and only VW on it. BOA shot me down and listed the unpaid charge off as the reason why.If there's a difference between how CC companies view these two types of charge offs, then this means there IS value in actually paying it off. Thoughts?FCS
willingtocope
Well, I'll admit I'm guessing. First, I'd put Verizon in the "utilities" category, where banks and the like don't think of them as "real" creditors. Second, (although lord know why) I'd be hard pressed to believe that a single paid charge off on an otherwise spotless report would cause problems. I suspect the BOA saw some other things in their credit model that gave them pause...
CreditSuperstar
Perhaps, but they showed that as the reason in the denial letter. The only other possible neg I had on there was some 30 day auto lates from 2003. Have 3 CC's never late. Only 17% balance to limit on those accounts too.I am wondering if there really is a difference between a paid CO and an unpaid one, in this situation. willingtocope
Honestly, I don't know. Logically, a single PAID charge off wouldn't hurt as much as a single UN-PAID charge off. On the other hand, I do know that there are times when a creditor is looking for a reason to deny and will latch onto anything that allows them to do that. And, the reason they're looking has nothing to do with the particular debtor...maybe they've met their quota of "loans" for that month, or they're too exposed in the state of NY, or the boss in charge doesn't like people whose name starts with F. willingtocope
You know, it just occured to me...the thing about "utility" creditors is that they're universally collectable. Even if your debt to them is beyond the SOL and has fallen off your CR, they can still collect on it...if they keep their records, and if you should ever want their service again. "Pay us what you owed us before we'll hook you up..."So...maybe the way to get a CO utility bill taken care of is to reopen service with them? With a cell phone company, this should be fairly easy. Simply tell them you liked their service so much you want to re-up and oh, by the way, can I have the same account number I did before?

carguy82
At what point are you at with verizon. Building your case. Have you had any luck disputing with the CRA's. Have you done DV's or anything else.
CreditSuperstar
well, I got them removed by EQ. Miracle of miracles, by disputing their inaccurate reporting of the monthly payments. Spoken with their upper level execs and was talking deal. They won't PFD yet, but I am trying to get them on FCRA vio's. Can't DV them as they are the OC, but I did request signed agreement, which they provided.Gonna be a battle.
carguy82
You got equifax to remove the tradeline by disputing their inaccurate reporting of the monthly payments. What happened with TU and Experian. What grounds are you planning on suing Verizon on. I have a flawless credit report on all three bureas right now, but the charge off will kill me. I have over 30 paid as agreed accounts. No collections, No public records and now to get a paid charge off from verizon will suck.
carguy82
You said "They won't PFD yet." What does PFD mean.

willingtocope
Geez, I have an absolutely brillant idea and people ignore me. What'd I miss?carguy92: Here's the plan. Call Verizon back and say "hey, now that we've settled the mistake I made, I'd like to reup the service with you guys"...doesn't matter if they don't serve your area, its a cell phone, so if they ask, tell them you'll be traveling back to their area and want to use their coverage. Ask for the same account number...and get the absolute minimum service / cost you can. If they report to the CRA, it will be for an open account with maybe a few lates (not a big deal). After you've completed the plan period, call them back and cancel....
