Let's compare The Big Three in their online service

Recommended Posts

I can't really rate them yet because I hate them all :-) but I will say that on the reports that I obtained tonight online:

Equifax was the most f---ked up file I got. It had 3 duplicates of the same department store account, each showing my one balance, yet appearing to be different in account numbers. (Basically, they are trying to make me look much more in debt than I am!) Also, they marked "Charge-off" in the headlines of one account and "settled" in very small letters in the comment section, which no one reads. I won't let them get away with that.

Transunion was most like Big Brother. They had more attention to detail, and had much less erronous personal information. You know, none of those badly spelled addresses going as far back as you can imagine. But they are detail oriented on jobs. They listed one job going back as far as the '70s. Like the others, they do make mistakes, though. They had my water bill from my last house down as a collection item against me, when it was paid through escrow by the buyers. And, they forgot to note one of my charge-offs (shhhh). They seemed a little bit friendlier, overall, but we shall see what happens upon receipt of my dispute. I was a bit impressed that they allowed me to dispute personal information online. You know, like how they have all those misspellings of your name.

Experian still makes me angrier than the others, as they won't let me dispute online. So, I will have to withhold my comments on them for now.

What are your experiences with each of them?

It might depend if your file lives permanetly in 'Special Handling' - I cannot dispute online with Experian, if I call, I immeadiately get switched to a special handling area or something..

Transunion seem to loathe anything that smacks of litigation, and I cannot dispute anything online, when I call I get some kind of special handling..so my file is flagged somehow

Equifax is the only one I can currently dispute online with, however that will prob. change next week, once I file my federal lawsuit againt them..

It is ironic that if you fully exercise your rights under the FCRA, and FDCPA you get treated different for that...

Whoa you mean you get a reputation with them or something? That is spooky! I don't like it when companies remember who I am. It pushes my paranoid buttons.

My understanding is that when you dispute online you give up most of your legal rights ragerding disputes. By all means, continue to submit your disputes online and via fax - just don't stop sending your disputes CMRRR.

(Once you've got your letter typed and saved on your PC, it's easy to cut and paste it into online forms or to send a paper copy through a fax machine.)

As I mentioned in another post earlier today, you may also want to send your disputes directly to the CRA execs - I posted their contact info in my post.

Equifax has the best online report hands down. They have more information contained in their report than either TU or EX. They seperate collection accounts from creditor accounts. They list the date of delinquency on collection accounts.

EX gets a mention for having free pulls online all day every day, but their information is lacking.

If you aren't using this, you aren't living though.

I have disputed multiple times off the same report#.

TU online reports are middle of the road. They don't allow free pulls, but do allow access to a dispute status report IF they give you a password in their letter. TU is more detailed in their reports than EX, but not as much as EQ.

Sorry, but that doesn't work for me. Someone here told me that they only let you dispute once, per Report #. I don't think they let me dispute online because it was a free report.

It has always worked fine for me... And I haven't paid for an EX report in years... And I have disputed with them so many times... I typically don't like to dispute online because I like the paper trail... But I like being able to view my report online after getting a free report...
