Cheated by AnnualCreditReport.com!

Recommended Posts

I ordered my free credit reports online at annualcreditreport.com. I successfully received my reports from TransUnion and Experian.

I got cheated out of my report from Equifax. The page acted up and would not show my report. I tried to start over and it said you already got your free report.

There's no one to call to talk to about this problem as all phone lines are automated. There's no email contact either. So I wrote them a letter and explained what had happened along with an application for my Equifax report to be mailed to me.

Today I got a letter from Equifax saying I already received my free report for this year!!! They obviously ignored my explanation letter.

Bottom line is I've been cheated by this new service at annualcreditreport.com and don't know where to turn to next.

Do I have any recourse at all, like complaining to the FTC or something?

No, it is one free report per agency. I had a similar problem, I wasn't able to get my report from Transunion, but luckily the error had happened before I was even able to order so I had the option to mail the form in.

Sorry, I wish I had an answer for your problem. Have you tried to get a phone number for Equifax from someone who has a credit report (those numbers will usually allow you to find a real person to talk to)? I think your best bet would be to get someone from Equifax on the phone.

Yes you guys were right and I was wrong! But it did say to chose one, from the .pdf form I had gotten somewhere. Online its a lot clearer.

Oh and I found this:

I just wanted to let you know that I couldn't get two of my reports from them because of apparent ID problems. TransUnion was the meanest about it - they just flat out denied me. At least Experian gave instructions - they want all kinds of ID mailed to them.

Have you guys tried to actually call that number that the site gives? Their voice recognition system is INSANE!! I spelled my street address to them, and it said back, "OK, kittens. K-i-t-t-e-n-s." And the street was nothing like that! I think it is just so bad in order to discourage us from bothering them.

Of course, knowing me, I stuck with it till the end and it said that TransUnion would be in touch with me by mail.

In today's mail I received a copy of my credit report from CSC. After some research I found that CSC is a division of Equifax. So I guess someone did read my letter I sent to AnnualCreditReport.com. Matter of fact I got duplicate copies which were mailed in separate envelopes. I just don't understand why it's from CSC instead of Equifax itself. But if that's what Equifax is handing out I guess I can live with it and I won't pursue the issue any further. BTW, has anybody else gotten a report from CSC rather than Equifax?
