meme
Hi everyone!Great board! Loads of great info here. Have a question:Are collection agencies allowed to check into someone's credit report when the person doesn't owe them anything? The collection in question is for my DH. No joint account, but they pulled a soft inquiry on my CR.I see this as an invasion of privacy. I've heard of credit grantors checking for pre-approval offers, but can CAs do this too? Thanks in advancememe
Been_Ponzied
Wow, that's pretty gutsy of them! I'd call the CRAs directly and raise hell.
willingtocope
What state are you in? If its a community property state and your finaces are intertwined, then it might be permitted...in other words, if you're also responsible for DH's debt, they might have "permissable purpose". I'm not sure if its legal, but may CAs troll CRs before they take on account...they're looking to see what the likelyhood is they'll get paid. meme
Thanks for the replies I live in NY. I don't think community property applies here, but thanks for mentioning it, I'll look into it just to be sure.
