Asset Acceptance AKA Hurley State Bank????

I have an entry on my credit report for Hurley State Bank (for a Gateway computer) I have never owned a Gateway (I'm a Dell Girl). Anyway, I just happen to be perusing the internet and I came across this website ripoffreport.com (Maybe I'm slow, but I've never heard of this before) So I'm reading different post from consumers who have had problem with various CA's (especially Asset) and I come across a few posts who says that Asset acquired Hurley State Bank, along with other companies who have gone out of business.

On my CR, it only lists as Hurley State Bank (the address is in Johnson, TN) it dosen't say anything about Asset Acceptance. How can I dispute this?? Before I read the post from the website, I called Gateway regarding the account, they said they cannot find acct# XXXX, so I called Citibank (now get this, on my Experian report its listed as Gateway/CBUSA NA) Citibank says they dont have acct# XXXX and that its a Discover card acct!!!??? Sooooo, I called Discover, and they said its not theirs either. (This account is in dispute-2nd time) So I called the CRA's explaining if this company (Hurley State Bank) is no longer doing business, how was this verified? Also, If this is supposed to be a Citibank account and Citibank says its not theirs, again, how is this coming back verified?? Mind you, even though I read that Asset bought out Hurley, they also have no record of that account.

Now after more reading, I see that Citibank acquired The Associates (Hurley State Bank c/o Commerce Associates) Now I'm really confused, who the heck has this account!!! I sent a DV ltr to the address listed on my CR, and I got a letter back saying they have no knowlede of this account? The letter was address as Hurley State Bank c/o Commerce Associates? (Remember I said earlier Hurley was "supposedly sold to Asset Acceptance, and Citibank bought Commerce Associates)

Can someone (anyone) out there help me out with this??? I'm at my wits end! Thanks again!

Anything you send the CRA's will be verified. Don't worry. Getting something verified from them is the first step in preparing to sue them. Suing is the best way to get something deleted.

Send a method of verification letter asking specifically how they verified the account. You'll get some mumbo jumbo form letter back. Do it 3x and then you'll have them violating that statute as well.

Also, get it in writing from each of the lending institutions that you owe them nothing and them not having any account on record for you.

Asset probably bought out the delinquent accounts of the bank.

In the end, you can either find a consumer lawyer or sue the CRA's yourself. Sue them for not doing an investigation, and not telling you how they did an investigation (MOV letter)

Hurley Bank used to finance Gateway and was bought out by Citifinancial as well as Associates. I would also make them validate the correct name of the person owning the acct. as I have had some JDB place an acct. on my reports that was not mine but a person who had the same name as myself and lived in the same town, but different SSAN's. Demand validation from Asset, and if it is not yours and beyond the SOL and has been reaged, these are just some of the violations that they have been known to do, get the papertrail going and make sure it is marked in dispute with all of the CRA's reported to. Also if they cannot validate they must remove and if it affects your credit with any of your creditors' it is also another reason to file a lawsuit, provided that you get a papertrail CRRR. Good Luck!
