Northern Lights
I have a Providian Bancorp Credit Card TL on my report thats shows date open 11/1999-date of last activity 01/2000-date closed 07/2000.Current Status-Pays As Agreed.Balance Amount-0Now for the kicker: Additional Information-Account Transferred or Sold; Paid Charge Off; Account Closed By Credit Grantor. Now in the account history it is showing 12/1999 with the number (2) meaning it was 60-89 days past due. How do I go about handling this situation, because one lines states pays as agreed the other has negative information?
willingtocope
I guess the first question is what is correct? If it was indeed a CO and sold to a JDB, then the balance should be $0. "Pays as agreed" doesn't sound right, but "Closed by credit grantor" probably is. It sounds like Providian just sent updates for certain fields and didn't bother with others. I'm guessing, but I think you should probably leave it alone. How is it reported on your other CRs?

jq26
My suggestion is that if the account is charged off, then leave it alone if the payment status is listed as: Pays as Agreed. You run the risk of the payment status being switched to charge-off which will tank your score. A few months back, I disputed an IIB account with AmEx. Their response was to merely reverse the comments so that Charge-Off is now listed as the payment status and 'Included in Bankruptcy' was now ONLY in the comments section. My score dropped 30 points overnight (to ~640). Two follow-up disputes and a direct-to the-OC FACTA dispute and I've been told three times that the info is correct. Bottom line, I should have left it alone.
