auntieem
Hi to you all from a newbie! I am gaining so much knowledge and inspiration from you all!Ok, I hope I am posting this in the correct section. My situation is a bit complicated b/c I am an American living overseas so if anyone has any first hand experience with the ex-pat situation I would love some advice.DV Question:I have a couple of CAs on my CRs that I have been disputing for years. Two years ago, I contacted 2 of the CAs by phone (now I know this is not a good idea) and told them that I don't believe these are my accounts. I even contacted the OC and talked to them about it (but they were of no use). These two debts just keep bouncing from one CA to another. So, yesterday I sent out DVs to these two places. If either one of these can verify the debts and try to take me to court what can they actually do with me out of the country?Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Been_Ponzied
I'm no attorney but I would say that no way are these creditors going to sue you if you live outside the country. It just wouldn't pay for them to even try.
auntieem
Thanks for your response!I would hope they would not think filing suit would be a worthy cause but my confidence in what CA will do is really low.
Been_Ponzied
That's true, you can't trust them. But I've never had one sue me and I'm 50 yrs old and have been in relationships that have gotten me in financial trouble lots of times. I guess there's always a first time, but not in my wildest imagination could I imagine one of them bothering with someone who has left the country. Of course, they'll ruin your credit here so that if you ever come back here, you'll be miserable.
Radio_Guy
Hi auntieem,Welcome. Some attorney/collection agents get paid by the amount of work they do NOT the amount of dollars they actually collect. It is naive to think that these Attorneys won't increase there billings by filing an illogical lawsuit. The most important question is the dollar amount of the TL's in question.Remember most businessmen and attorneys will kill their own mother for and extra nickle. Good Luck,
