beeboah
My wife is a permanent resident with no credit history whatsoever. She was turned down by all 3 credit card companies based on no credit history. We promptly mailed away for copies of her free credit reports which obvioulsy showed blank credit history.Where could she go to get a credit card if she is being turned down for even the most basic CC companies? I don't want her report to start filling up with inquiries on places that will never give her credit. We are in a bad situation and furniture is the only thing that we need on credit as we have none. Rent-a-center schemes are too much money and we are tired of getting used infested items out of thrift stores.I am just trying to get her a credit card in general (to build her credit)but if there are other places that are non-furniture related that would help do such that is fine to.Thanks for your suggestions.(my credit is trash so I cannot help)
DocDon
You're going to be hard-pressed to find anyone who will give her credit with no history - there's too much risk involved. If there are any issuers out there willing to take the risk, they're probably predatory lenders, and that's worse than having no credit card at all.Try your neighborhood credit unions, or go the secured card route (something like National City is easy to get into from what's been reported). Many secured cards report to the CRA's and go unsecured after about 12 months or so.The other option is to have her listed as an AU (authorized user) on another card that reports to the CRA's. While this won't necessarily be a reflection of her own credit usage, it will give her at least a FAKO score...

loftinm
hi... she might want to try target. they are fairly easy to get. also, I think Orchard has a way you can "pre-apply" with out them showing an inquiry and they show you which card you will most likely get and then you apply, at that time if you actually apply they do pull an inquiry. good luck to you guys! beeboah
Hi,Thanks for this suggestion as well. Concerning target, does it make a difference as to whether or not the application is made online or in person?
loftinm
I really don't know? I wouldn't think it would make a difference... I applied in the store when they were giving you 10% off whether you got approved or not. I had a big purchase so thought what the heck... I didn't think anything of it then got a card in the mail a week or so later.
cabledude
Try Exxon/Mobil gas card. They are really easy. However, with no credit history they may ask for some supporting docs such as DL or SS card.
katsr
Does anybody know who they pull from?

loftinm
hey Beeboah - I just found out about Crown Jewelers http://crownjewelers.com/. Apparently they approve everyone! I got approved for $1500. But you need to make a small purchase with a small down payment for them to start reporting. People on another board said this made their scores jump 20 points. We'll see if that's true. But the ease of getting approved by them is true.
ceowens
Do you have any cash on hand?? In a savings acct? You could take your cash (let's say $500) and ask the bank to make a personal loan to your wife using the cash as collateral. I guess kind of like a secured loan. Then make payments for a couple of months to get it reporting, and then use the cash to pay it off in full. Another twist on that is to take $500 and get a secured loan from one bank.........take THAT loan down to the next bank and do the same thing.......take THAT loan to yet another bank and do it again. Pay minimums for a couple of months, then pay them all off. This should (in theory) get 3 trades reporting to her file. Good luck.
