julieann199930
My husband has a chase credit card account that we pay on faithfully each month by check. Even w/out missing 1 payment, they raised the interest rate a few months back. He's had this acc't for over 3years.He got a letter in the mail yesterday along with our check payment . The letter stated "unable to locate a valid account number" HUH? At this point, I told DH let it go. His credit sucks so it can't hurt him, and the fact that they say there is no account number tells me they screwed themselves if they ever take him to court/collection agency. It's a balance under $900, but with no account number, who says we owe anything now, kwim? wdyt?
breathing_easier
Your DH's credit will suck even more if he doesn't keep this account current. Sounds like it is just a simple matter of someone inputting the account number incorrectly. This is an open, active, never late account and not a collection account, correct? If so, then I would call the cc company immediately and get this straightened out. If not, you may end up dealing with an ugly tradeline for the next seven years or more. As to Chase raising your DH's interest rate a few months ago even though he's not in default on his Chase account, if he's been missing payments or has been late on othe cards then Chase has probably invoked what is known as "universal default." Means that the way they look at it if you're delinquent on other accounts then there is a good probability that you could go delinquent on their account as well. Many (most?) cc companies invoke universal default.
codename_fortyseven
Further, if you are getting rate jacked, I would just pay the thing off and shred the CC.
frankdobbs
Chase is in the middle of the merger with Bankone, as I found out today when I went to pay my bill online and the site was acting crazy.

breathing_easier
sigh..we can never seem to win Did your DH write your account number on the check or money order? That's very important, just for this reason. Once again, call Chase and try to work it out. The sooner the better.
Recovering Attorney
the over the phone payment is teh best way to get this straightened out. They are bears about lowering the interest rate, so I would do what I could to pay it off, then let the account lay fallow for 12 months.
