Hello Everyone,

I've been reading & lurking now for a couple of months and finally made myself a legal citizen of CB. :D

I checked my credit report today and there is:

Asset Acceptance showing up much to my surprise(never received a letter)

Acct type: Unknown

Type of business:Sales Financing Company

Terms: 1 month

Acct status:closed

Mo Pymt: $0

Date Open: April 2005

Balance : $107

Balance Date: June 8,2005

Credit limit/Orig Amount: $106.00

Past Due: $107.00

Remarks:not reported

Payment Status: seriousley past due/assigned to atty/c.a

but here is the clincher-I received a letter dated 7/21/05 from another collection agency called Universal Fidelity for the same amount(same debt it appears)but it's not showing on my credit reports???

It looks like they are trying to collect the same debt-which is not mine by the way(really).I need a little input because I'm not sure how to proceed and would ASSET be considered a JDB in this particular scenario??

All responses apprecciated ......Thanks

From what I can tell, UFC is a letter shop. Save all the letters, they are cute, and at least two are chock full of violations. If you get one or two that threaten your credit, save those. You may find they do not do as they say.

They will try to call you, too. Simply dispute and ask them not to call you again.

What is this for? They do a lot for the insurance and direct merchant industries.

I had a similar incident with asset. A collection agency showed up on my report with assest as the OC.

I sent the collection agency an angry letter stating the account had been removed years before because it was not valid and how pissed I was that it was showing up again.

At the same time I sent asset a similar email telling them the account was as invalid now as it was then.

Five days later I got letter from the CA saying the matter was resolved.

POOF, never heard from either one again

Ive sued both companies and have a pretty decent professional relationship with general counsel with both companies.....

depending on the letters you have from universal...

Does it say "RECORD OF NOTIFICATION" and tell you they are seeking location information and taking further action .. bla bla bla... let me know - id be happy to represent you ...

UF claims not to have the ability to delete CR TL's

Asset on the other hand tends to buy alot of debt and has demnstrated an ability to delete TL's completely in efforts to avoid my lawsuits... ;)

You can contact me through my site and get some more helpful tips

good luck!
