Hello, I am new to this website. I just pulled my credit report for the first time ever! I am trying to learn about credit repair. I have a collection on my Experian by Schreiber & Associates, PC that says that I owe $2,523 to the OC, Citifinancial. The balance is $3,886. When I went to the BBB to find their address, it says that they were revoked by BBB on 12/07/04 and have an unsatisfactory record with them. They were also fined $100,000 by the Mass Attny Gen. for unfair deceptive business practices. The only Citifinancial account I have had was included in a bankruptcy in 2001. The TL says this account was assigned after the bankruptcy in Oct '01 and the balance date shows May 2004. Should I write a DV letter to them or just dispute with the CA? Could this be a mistake by them confusing me with someone else? What should I do next?

First, read section 392 of the Texas finance code. Texas has some of the best consumer laws in the country.

Second, DV them.

Third, get a tape recorder, Tx is a one party state. Read my recording thread in the resources forum.

The fact that they are getting beaten up by atty generals bodes well for you.

This means they will probably violate, so all you need to do is document that and sue.

I'm guessing that a well documented complaint to the state AGs will get him a deletion long before a lawsuit has to be filed.
