AMEX Problem

I have an account with AMEX. It is delinquent for $1600. They have sent it to a collection agency, but the collection agency has not reported it as delinquent to the CRAs--yet. However, on my credit report AMEX has listed it as in collection (it went delinquent last April). Is this the same as a charge off.

This is AMEX card (green rewards) is the kind of card where you have to pay your balance off at once. I used the $1600 for medical expenses and couldn’t pay it back in one lump sum. Before it went delinquent when I knew I wouldn’t be able to pay it pay all at once, I called them and told them this and asked if I could make monthly payments and they said no; they didn’t care!

Now months later, I tried calling AMEX to make payment arrangements (and to get it unrated in exchange). I called AMEX and they said since it has been 60 days that I have to deal with the collection agency.

I'm not sure what I should do. i think it is strange that AMEX would not try and get their money back.

What should I do next?

What should I do?
