Is it true?

Is it true that the collection agency cannot remove anything from our credit report? They say only the original creditor can. We want to settle with them and agree that they will remove it from our CR or at least agree on what will be put on. They say they can't. Help!

Only if you believe in the tooth fairy...

ANYTHING can be removed by the same entity that put it there...

Feel the need to add....

If you're talking about the OC's entry on your CR, then, yes, it is up to the OC to remove it. The CA may or may not be able to influence them.

On the other hand, if its a CA's entry, then they can remove it. Whether or not the affects what the OC is reporting...see above.

For the record, credit reporting agencies do have rules that say that TLs should not be removed. There is no law governing this, however.
