Authorized user on wife's card. Some Questions

Wife just got approved for a $200 Capital One card. I owe them money on a credit card that was "charged off" and it is still within the SOL.

Is there any reason why I would put myself at greater risk by having myself put as an authorized user on her account for the purpose of rebuilding my credit?

Will being an authorized user on her account raise my score as much as if it was my own CC?

We are going to keep low balances on the card and pay them off.

Thanks for your help.

I dont think I would have this done being an authorized user on your wifes account when you have one with the same company as a charge off.

Now if they review your credit report which they do, they will see that you have another acccount so be it as an authorize user that several things can happen.

Capital one can close your wifes account, send out the dogs on you, and create more problems then it's worth. How old is your charge off with capital one?

Your increase as an authorize user will be slight if any so I would try to get them off your report prior to being placed on your wifes card.

I don't think they cross reference the collection files with AU's.

That would be the only way they could do something...

  • 2 weeks later...

DH has a card with Cap 1 and I am an AU on the card.

I have a CO for Cap 1 from end of 2001/early 2002 and *knocking on wood* I have had no problems. They put me as an AU on his card without question. I was just told that I couldn't use the Cap 1 card to apply for credit in my own name.

Just my .02
