Line 17 Marital Adjustment on Means Test form

Recommended Posts

My gibberish to english translator says that it means that if you're married and still living together, BOTH incomes must be considered when figuring out whether you qualify for a 7 or are forced to use 13. Unlike standard tax filings, it looks to me as though you don't have a choice of whether you're filing separately or not.

(I'm not an expert on this. You should ask your lawyer.)

Thanks. I understand that. We don't have a lawyer yet...I'm just trying to feel out what's going to happen with all this first.

I am just wondering what kinds of things are allowed to be entered on this line.

You still are not required to file jointly, but the new means test uses HOUSEHOLD income more than the old laws ever did.
