Help with rude Collectors, not a collection agency

Recommended Posts

 :Are there laws that govern the collection’s department of an original creditor? I am being harassed at my place of employment by a payday loan company. I have attempted to make payment arrangements, but they are being refused by the company. Collection practices include, rude language, yelling in the phone, calling co-workers leaving messages for me, when they have my extension, and threats. These collectors barely let me speak, hang up in my face (while I continue to speak in a calm voice), and making belittling comments like, "if you are married, you husband should help you". Lastly, they have stated that they will mark my account "refused to pay” which is not true. This person told me that they do not have to abide by the FDCPA. Is this true? Should I just make the payments via western union, or wait until someone confirms that the arrangements are acceptable.

Dang, I have never been to one of those places because I know they're bad news. Hopefully there is somebody here with some sort of experience with this. Just in case nobody weighs in here, call your attorney generals office and let them know what is going on. You may even want to go to the local police station and file a harassment charge; somebody even directing a cuss word in your direction can be deemed as harassment. Tell the police that you fear for your safety because of the threats. If the AG doesn't help, they should be able to find somebody for you that can. I wish I could help more, but that's all I would do if I couldn't just call a lawyer. If you don't mind, what state do you live in?

Yeah, those places are no joke. Here in AZ, state congress attempted to close them all down because they are essentially doing the same thing to you as they do to people here. The reason they want them close here is because they are only in poor areas, so they are obviously predatory. That's why I say to call the AG, if they can't do anything, they can at least give you advice. Nobody (other than heartless CA's) enjoys seeing other people suffer, the AG should help.

they closed them down here in NC.. the AG had enough of them and the zillion dollar interest rate.. they all went bye bye a few months ago.. I understand they are a nightmare to deal with.. but YOU can do it.. just STAY OFF THE PHONE.. and ask for everything in writing and talk to your AG.. they may be able to help with this.. they have a bad reputation

Thank you all for the awesome ammunition. I will definitely use it! Can you believe this company also told me that they can not send written correspondence? Have you ever heard of such a thing?

Anyway, I have learned my lesson and will never evah deal with them again! CIC you rock!
