Question about Ocwen Loan Servicing

I'm new here, but did a search and couldn't find anything about Ocwen, other than their mortgage branch. So, I'm hoping that someone could help me.

Here is my problem; I settled an account with Ocwen in June of 2005, have the cancelled check, but never received a settlement letter. Fast forward to this May, I go to a Mortgage company to get approved as a first time homebuyer, he pulls my credit report, and this account is shown as being open under Midland and ERC. I have called both of them, and they are willing to work with me, but Ocwen is holding me up. They acknowledge that I settled the account last June, but say that they can't release a settled letter, that I have to receive the letter from Midland. Midland says they can't release the letter, because according to their records, the debt hasn't been settled!

Does anyone have any info on what steps I should take, other than sending a copy of the cancelled check to the three agencies, along with Midland and ERC?

Thank you in advance!

I'm not a 'newbie' but more of an 'absentee'...I have been working diligently behind the scenes though accomplishing much!

My sister-in-law resides in New Jersey and has a mortgage with Ocwen...it has been her 'hell' since her husband refinanced with them and he has since past away. She doesn't have much equity in the property to refinance.

I did a little research for her and I remember finding some information on the 'Rip-Off Report' and 'Budd Hibbs' if I'm not mistaken.

It has been awhile I think April/May timeframe but it may be worth taking a look.

In any event, I like your thoughts below and what I have done in the past in similar situations is just that...

Good luck!

so Ocwen is the OC and they've farmed the account out to both Midland and ERC? send Midland a copy of the check that you settled with Ocwen with.

was this settled with the OC b4 they sent it out? if so, they're already building violations. and both CA's can't have it listed on your report. only the OC and whatever CA currently has the debt.

Actually, MBNA is the OC. Midland got the account when it went delinquent back in '01. Ocwen got it from Midland, and that's when I settled the account. It is currently showing up on my CR from Midland, but ERC has been contacting me, stating that they recently received the account from Midland.

I'm just assuming Ocwen got it from Midland, as the rep. from Midland has no knowledge of Ocwen. It's very confusing, but thank you very much for all of your help!
