imacosmetologist
I got a call from a collection agency yesterday morning. They asked for me and I just told the lady the person they were asking for, "me", was not there. I heard the lady typing in the bankground. I looked up the phone number they called from in www.whitepages.com and it only tells me that it is a landline in Ohio.I have an unlisted number and every DV letter I've sent, which also includes C&D never listed my phone number, just an address for correspondence. The only letter that I've every sent with my phone number on it has been when I sent complaints to the credit bureaus. Was I wrong to do that? Is that how they may have gotten my phone number? MissTcal
Of course, they took your phone number from your credit report. Almost nothing is sacred anymore. In your C&D did you advise them to only contact you by mail?
GreatGadsby
In your C&D did you advise them to only contact you by mail?doesn't matter if she did. limited C&D's are not enforceable.
imacosmetologist
Yes, I told them only to contact me via mail. I used the same letter that is posted here. What constitues a "limited C&D"?
GreatGadsby
a C&D letter orders/requests a cessation of ALL contact. anything that asks that they only contact you on your terms is a limited C&D. since you're not asking them to stop all contact, only to stop it via phone...people try to claim that it's enforceable b/c the debt collectors are not allowed to contact you at a time that is inconvenient for you, but you would have a hard time convincing the judge that it is always inconvenient for you to talk on the phone. mikey
if your phone was wireless and you paid by the minute then it would be inconvenient because of the high cost of wireless minutes and that you insist on mail only to avoid these calls and cost. wicked_wisdom
CAs have all sorts of ways to find people. SSN, county records, state records, utility records. For instance, http://www.zabasearch.com/. I put my own name in here and my address popped right up.
imacosmetologist
Interesting website. I put my name in for both Alabama and Florida and it only found two addresses, neither of which are anywhere near being current.
