divemedic
The user you are asking about is a debt settlement firm that makes LARGE amounts of money, negotiating on your behalf. There is nothing magical about him. Many of the people singing his praises are using IP addresses that are registered to the area within a few miles of the offices of his employer. In my opinion, this is a scam to get your money. He is no different from a CA, except he gets YOU to contact HIM.
AISLE4
If you've been doing research about settling with original creditors you know that it's best to wait until close to chargeoff. No creditor is going to settle with you while your account is current. I'm preparing to settle many accounts--waiting for the chargeoff dates to approach (typically 150-180 days after the account went delinquent). I'm going to do my best to avoid having to endure collection agencies and potential court appearances by settling with the OC's--sounds like you are looking to take the same route. Settling with the original creditor is the way to go if you can come up with some money, but, remember, the accounts have to be delinquent and close to chargeoff to get the best settlement. Use the interim between first delinquency and chargeoff to educate yourself and get some money together. And why pay a settlement company for something you can do for yourself. If you have decent language skills and aren't a pushover, you can successfully negotiate your own settlements.Research your creditors on this board and others to find out what kind of settlements they tend to offer or accept. That'll give you a template to work with when starting the settlement process with them.I was in your shoes not too long ago--in emotional tumult about a very unpleasant financial situation. But once I decided on a course of action and began preparing myself, I feel empowered.
