had an acct with Radioshack Credit plan. transferred entire bal of 1100+ to another card with lower int rate 12 2004. did this by phone and verbally closed acct then. followed up next day with a letter closing acct. (Have copy). Radioshack credit plan sent me check for resulting credit on acct with letter dated 1-12-05.(I had overpaid by $36) Sent letter dated 1-18-05 saying acct is closed thanks for business blah blah blah. (have copy). Then in feb I get bill for 200+ for a transaction that was supposed to have happened on 1-13-05, over 2 wks after I closed acct and PIF. Called 2X's and was told matter would be investigated. Wrote letter 4-20-05 reiterating that this chg was not mine etc. Never got another bill or heard another word. Naively thought matter resolved. May 2006 get free copy of CR and there's a Collection/co for $500+ reported from RSHK/CBUSA (Citibank). Call and talk to recovery dept. They say fax all info to dispute dept allow 30-45 days to investigate. i do this, wait 7.5 wks hear nothing. call again and idiot in recovery dept, obviously looking at scanned images of what i faxed, says there are no notes from dispute dept so apparently dispute dept never got info and I should refax it. This time I sent it CMRRR so Iknow it was rec'd.

Still have heard nothing. Acct not being reported as disputed, says acct was closed by credit grantor (not true) and says acct was closed 5 2005. ( I have letter from them saying I closed acct 1-2005. Anyone know who I can direct info to who would actually investigate this? I'm involved with a debt management program and this acct is listed on program. I needed to include all accts negatively affecting CR. I also sent letter CMRRR explaining why payments are being made on this acct by Debt Management Co, and saying these payments DO NOT mean I own the debt. (CITI was about to send it to collection, I had to do something) Hope payments will be refunded to me after matter is resolved. Need to know name and contact info for someone who can get something done about this matter.

Hi.

So happy to hear that you still have copies of all these letters. This should be an easy thing to fix (I know, "should") once you find the right person to contact. I'll have a look around for you. You might want to try searching 'Citibank' here and reading any threads on them that you can find.

What kind of debt company are you working with? I mean, what do they do for you exactly? These companies can often have very detrimental effects on your credit, so be careful. Welcome :)

Try this address out: http://www.newyork.bbb.org/reports/businessreports.aspx?pid=44&page=1&id=140

When you send your letter you may want to add to the address, "Compliance Dept or Legal Dept" so that it gets to someone whose job it is to fix things like this. Send them copies of all the other letters, too. There are many people who've had personal experience dealing with Citi so hopefully they'll chime in. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your help. The debt management company is called Novadebt. So far, they have been very helpful. One acct with Chase had a 29.99% interest rate + all the late fees, overages etc. Novadebt got Chase to go down to 6% interest with no other fees. Chase has also brought the acct current after 4 on time payments. The fee for Novadebt is $15/month.

So you would address the dispute to

Citigroup

399 Park Avenue

New York, NY 10043

ATTN: Compliance Dept or Legal Dept?

The address I used before was

Dispute Dept

Citicard

P.o. box 20523

Kansas City, Missouri 64153

To be honest I really don't remember where the address i used even came from but obviously it got me nowhere.

I have never had to write them, but I think seeing "legal" and "compliance" would get their attention. "Dispute Dept" to me just seems like a place where they can file stuff way to be ignored. Not being literal here, but you get my drift. I would write it like this:

Citigroup

ATTN: Legal or Compliance Dept.

399 Park Avenue

New York, NY 10043

This tells them you mean business and you will eventually sue if you have to. And generally, a PO Box Address is much less effective than a street address.
