CarolinaBlueEyes
I was wondering if any of you can shed some light on thisI was checking my credit reports today and I notice an account from Citi (several of my accounts are in their hands or their JDBS and they have bought up several more.My citi accounts all start with a five or a four (mastercard, visa)This was a citi account that started with a six.. it was reported for two months.. showing last payment as blank and last activity both in July 06.. the last dealings I had with citi was sept of 03..Since it has July of 06 for, last reported, last activity and shows the amount as a charge off.. what can this be??? Not to mention with strange account number.. it is still listed under Citifinancial.. but I dont have a clue as to what this is.. its just a lone posting.. no payment history.. nothing
willingtocope
Here's a link that talks about CC account numbers...http://www.merriampark.com/anatomycc.htm...I'm not sure how accurate it would be...it seems to be a programmers site...but it does point out that numbers starting with a 6 are Discover card. Did you have one of those go bad? Maybe Citi bought it...
LNY
Did you ever bank with them, and maybe had a line of credit/overdraft protection?
IHateCAs
The citifinancial division handles installment loans.
CarolinaBlueEyes
Never had a discover nor an installment loan with them.. that account number matches NOTHING I have , it just says charge off.. lists the last activity date as July 06 as well as last reported date as July 06, which is not possible (and no one could get credit from citi in my name right now anyway).. thats what stuns me.. I have never had an account number that started with 6.I have every account number and have tracked the changes on this and I am at a loss how it can be reported for two months.. all the dates are the same, except last payment is blank.. says O balance O past due.. charged off.. its not even consistant with regular reporting info and it shows up on my experian and equifax reportsI read willingtocopes link (LOVE THIS THANKS!) but it starts with a 607.. again, no clue
willingtocope
Alrighty then...go to http://all-nettools.com/toolbox,financial , scroll down the page, and use the "BIN" locator. Enter the first six digits of the card account number, and it should tell you the issuing bank...
LNY
Maybe a Citi-owned store card, like Sears or something?
CarolinaBlueEyes
nope.. I dont have cards like that.. never did... this account number does not match anything in my records... and this still does not explain the July 06 date.. since I have not had any credit card payments or dealings since sept of

willingtocope
I do know that some CC companies will change an account number when a debt is no longer active. Its intended to automatically kick out as invalid any attempt to use that number on-line. I'm guessing its now time for you to right a "hey, I found you on my CRs...send me validation, or get off my reports..." kind of letter...
CarolinaBlueEyes
Good idea.. I am just concerned about those dates.. they are years off from anything.. I have not had a CC account in over three years.. let alone paid any account I dont have an agreement or settled with and this one is showing just two months ago
