Repo listed twice on same report??

I had a repo from Honda in 2003. I just ran my Equifax CR and saw that this appeared TWICE on the same report. The balance and all info is the same...only the names of the finance company are different. One is American Honda Finance, the other is AHF. Is this legal to report this twice? It is making for a $10,000 balance when the balance is only $5,000. If this is not OK, am I within the SOL to begin DV or should I not wake this giant until the SOL (in CA) has passed?

Thanks!

The finance company has the right to report it on your CR's, but if they've sold it to a collection agency it should read "sold" and the balance should be ZERO. Then, there'd be a separate TL for the CA showing the balance. If it were me, I'd dispute them BOTH to see what happens. JMHO.

You said; "So the whole SOL thing doesn't matter if I'm disputing things with the CRA, right...only with the CA."

Right. That's how I understand it. You can always dispute a listing on your CR's. On the other hand, if you want to DV the CA or whatever--than that's different. Find out the SOL for your state, go from there. Either way, they have an obligation to report correctly on your CR's.

On the other hand--disputing the reporting on your CR's may "alert" them to come after you to--so if it were me, I'd almost make sure the SOL HAS passed prior to saying anything...just in case. So, that's what--another year for Calif? Well, it isn't a definite that they'd come after you if you requested the CR info be reported correctly...but who knows.
