lordreyrey
I have read all over the place that "piggybacking" someone's good credit by having them add you to their credit card as an "authorized user" is a good way to up your score. Their good account gets reported on your credit.Has anyone done this? I had my grandmother add me to her Chase card today, and they just asked for my name. No other information, like my SS#.Does that mean that they don't report authorized users?

brattylatina
I was added to my son's Macy's account as an authorized user. When he added me they didn't ask for social or anything. Next thing you know, they are reporting on my credit report. Now I have that listed as one of my positive accounts.
jq26
I was added to a Citibank card and it reported me as an AU within 2 weeks. Bumped my score 30+ points overnight. They did ask for my SSN, but I have heard not all need it- and they miraculously show up on your reports.
lordreyrey
Yeah, strange. I have read all over the posts on this, and some say they don't need your info, but they still report.I called Chase to ask them directly, and they said it doesn't report AU at all, you need to open an account. All they took were our names down, and the cards are being sent to her house.I suppose I just wait it out, and see if POOF, it is on my credit report. spoiler
I was an AU on my husbands Chase Card when he had it, and they are on my credit report. Good luck!
jq26
I called Chase to ask them directly, and they said it doesn't report AU at all, you need to open an account. The customer serveice reps are clueless. When I was seeking out an AU card to be placed on, I spoke to a few of them at different companies. The range of answers were amazing. Some weren't even logical. I was told by one rep that by being an AU that I would lose FICO points. I just went along and had them add me to my fiance's card. A few weeks later, 30 point bump when I really needed it. lordreyrey
Yeah, I don't doubt at all that the reps are braindead. What I can't seem to get through my own head is how they report without a SSN. They just asked my name, which is different surname from hers, and sent the cards to her address, which is different from mine, and it will appear on my credit?I'm waiting to see if it happens. It would be a major boost for my credit.

I'm getting ready to search, but I thought I'd go ahead and post here since we're already in discussion. When you are added as an AU, do you get all the "back" history? Will the new TL say that I've been current on that card for 4 yrs, like my gf has?
PolarBearnCO
Also, any danger of a card company cancelling her because I get added as an AU? ie, maybe I defaulted with Chase way back when? (I don't think I did, but I don't know.)
