LNY
It's not subprime (Orchard is their real subprime offering), but it's not prime either. Have you done a search for Household, to read up on others' experences? That should always be your first step.
chilton1
Thanks I did read up on houseold but all what I saw was that it was better than orchard but not if was Prime. thank you I went ahead and applied on the phone and they gave me a $3000 limit. Will get the card in 5 to 10 days.thanks to this site I'm human again, I'm human again
LNY
That is really good to hear. And that $3000 is one of the highest initial limits I've ever seen from Household. I had mine for four years and was only up to $2800.Congratulations!!!!
credit_junkie87
I received a pretty good offer from them recently...2% rewards on ALL purchases! With a 12% APRSeems a little too good to be true from a non-prime lender.Has anyone else received something like this?
direred
That sounds like a prime HSBC card.
ThePeacock
My wife has 2 cars with them. They constantly give killer BT options. But they told her the highest they go is $2400 max on both cards. That's what they're at. One is Orchard, 1 is Household. Neither one have a name on them, they both just say "Platinum Mastercard" Same terms, rate, etc. I don't see how one is Prime and one is not, other than just Orchard being associated with "SubPrime".Peacock

direred
Direred was referring to HSBC proper, as opposed to Household.Yeah. DH (who's so prime he doesn't know how prime he is) got an offer for HSBC Platinum, 5k min. He shredded it. Bastard!
gourgi18
Yeah BOA are strange cookies. I got a pre-approved offer from them about a year ago when my credit was worse than it is now. I went ahead and sent it in thinking they would find some reason to decline me and poof! They sent me a card with a 3000 limit. I find it so odd to hear they turn down people with good scores. credit_junkie87
Regarding my preapproved Household offer with 2% cash back on purchases...That sounds like a prime HSBC card.I double check today and the offer simply says "Platinum Select MC". The website given is www.hbaccept.comWhich brings me back to my original question - is this for real? Has anyone else received an offer like this?Lately I've received several offers from Orchard and Household, but never ones with rewards.
LNY
Look at the offer Chilton1 in this thread got (and was approved for) from Household. Why do you wonder if it's "for real"? These companies change their offerings all the time. If you want/need it and you think you can get it, give it a shot!
spray25
DW and I both applied to HSBC. We got their cash or fly platinum cards, with $8k on one and $8.5k on the other. I think a lot of the reason for the high limits is that we have a large online savings account with them.

HSBC may own Household, but it's an entirely different tier with entirely different underwriting standards and requirements. This thread is about Household cards.
